Thread: Okay so I’ve been watching The Last Airbender and while progress is slow bc I’m busy with classes I have questions: 1/
I don’t understand why the Fire Nation was able to kill off the Air Nomads. I get that they’re like monks and prefer non-lethal methods, so okay. But even then, fire needs oxygen in air to burn and it’s direction is based on air currents. 2/
Assuming airbenders can control air pressure (bc that’s how wind works), they should at least be able to control fire’s direction with air currents or create back-drafts, or at most create partial vacuums to prevent firebenders from being able to ignite at all?? 3/
Okay so another issue: The Fire Nation’s goal in wiping out the Air Nomads was to break the Avatar cycle (so they would be unstoppable). Didn’t they *kind of* succeed? Sure the one they were directly targeting, Aang, survived. 4/
But if he’s still the *last* airbender. If the Avatar follows a cycle in the elements... then a few lifetimes from now when the cycle comes around and we’ve had a new water, earth and fire Avatar, won’t the world be out of luck and the cycle broken?? 5/
And sure I guess airbenders can continue if Aang has kids. But then that creates an Avatar dynasty in his family? Because by default one of his descendants will *have* to be the Avatar for the cycle of the elements to continue. 6/
Maybe they deal with this in Legend of Korra but barring that then it seems to me the Fire Nation DID succeed in ending the Avatar- just not in time to allow them to win the war. (End of thread for now)
