This is the first nationally representative survey done in #Morocco since the #COVID19 pandemic. A few highlights, especially as related to children: (1/n) https://twitter.com/hcpmaroc/status/1262886055600144385
Economic: 37% of households surveyed reported having no source of income since the public health emergency was declared on March 19th, the majority being poor households and those working in the informal sector. (2/n)
Education: About half of households with school-aged children report that their children are not regularly engaged in distance learning and 20% are not engaged at all. 70% report not being satisfied with the distance learning materials offered. (3/n)
Worryingly, 25% of households report not assisting their primary school aged children with distance learning, this reaches 67% when the head of HH has no education. Despite the wide reach of TV, social networks/chats are the main tool used for distance learning. (4/n)
Health: Concerning results regarding access to maternal and child health services. 36% report having skipped vaccination visits for their children and 30% report having foregone pre-natal consultations. For both, the figures are worse in rural areas. (5/n)
Information and Behavior: Most seem to have gotten the message to wash hands (97%) and 78% report having completely adhered to confinement measures. 87% report having received the information from TV/radio. (6/n)
Overall, lots of insights that need to inform that next generation of the response. Communication strategy needs to shift to inform on how health services can be accessed safely. Distance learning is a sub-optimal alternative but will be the norm for some time. (7/n)
Poor and rural households need to be given the tools to increase access to distance learning. Content needs to improve, and parents must be encouraged and supported to play their role. Cash transfers need to continue and targeting monitored. (8/n)
It’s great that #Morocco has conducted this phone survey quickly and that it will be repeated. A first in the MENA region to my knowledge and one of the main areas of collaboration in the new partnership between @hcpmaroc and @UNICEFMaroc . (n/n)
