All three of my wonderful daughters - Safiyyah, Khadijah and Haalah - will, InshaAllah, memorise, understand and embody the Quran.

They will pass this tradition to their children.
They are my keys to Paradise.

My mother, may Allah elevate her status, was not “educated” but she played the single most important role in my own education.

All three of her sons memorised the Quran.

She inspired us.
When I first memorised the Quran, I did not know what it meant.

Understanding came later. That was through her prayers, support and personal sacrifice.

What little wealth she had she sent us to a seminary.
She was told by some that your son can’t do it. It’s not for him.

But she knew her son better.

She wouldn’t take no for an answer.

She wants for my three jewels to memorise the Quran.
Have high ambitions.

You’ll be surprised with what your child can become.

And what they will then do to help others reach their potential.

Like Ghazali said, they are like diamonds ready to be cut and made into shape.
Much of our outlook says a lot about what is within us.

Some see nuggets and diamonds.

Others see lumps of coal.

One becomes something of immense value.

The other to be burnt and turned to ash.
The Prophet ﷺ inspired people - men and women - to reach for the stars.

It’s no coincidence that his companions are like stars.

You can only guide when you know the way.

To some, the stars seems random.

To those endowed with perspicacity, they see the pattern.
Don’t be dismissive of what you can’t understand at first sight.

Keep observing, looking, trying...

You’ll see the constellation.

“... So return [your] vision [to the sky]; do you see any breaks?”

Sure, you will stumble along the way.

Life is one big lesson.
