It’s not quite the same yet, and we have a ways to go for it to feel “normal” again. But we were together and I’m so happy to be back.

Here’s my observations so far 3 services in...
1. It was so nice to sing corporately again. Man, I missed that!! The church is a singing people and it was great to return to this foundational part of Laurel.
2. We had guests!! I told some recently that it would probably be a while that we’d see guests given the season we are in, but man was I wrong. I was certainly encouraged by that today.
3. Interacting is hard with social distancing, but I pray we keep our warmth as a church in this season. This was a subtle change that COVID brought I wasn’t expecting. This has bothered me all day, but I know it’s the circumstances and not our people.
4. I’m nervous again. Like rookie year nervous. I haven’t preached to “faces” in 10 weeks, so I’ve had a little anxiety before, during, & after the sermon. I feel “rusty,” like a player returning from the DL. Oh, but it’s so much better than the alternative!
5. The past 3 services have felt like a “snow day” here in the south. So many of our older congregation is missing. I can’t wait to see them again. They are so valuable to me and our church family.
6. I’m encouraged by the grace people are extending to others in this season. Long distance relationships are tough, but being together brings a greater patience and love toward one another.
7. The children in the services have been absolutely fantastic!! I’m so proud of all them, but I’m sure moms and dads are ready for kids ministry to return...and it will soon.
8. Change is good, especially when that change is led by the Lord. I’m excited about the future and the gradual adjustments the Lord is making in our ministry as we return. The “reset” button for improvement and greater focus has been a gift from Jesus. I’m following HIM!
