THE YOUNG MINISTER AND THE 9-5 QUESTION.

I have Pastored a church in Lagos for a few months now, and every time someone asks me "what do you do", and I reply with "I'm a pastor", more often than not, they follow up with "Like I mean, what do you do for a living?!"
Shey I'm Pastoring for a Dead abi?!

Anyway, I understand the question.

Many people ask that question because we live in a society that believe that work must involve getting up everyday and entering hold up, getting to a predetermined workspace and then sitting put till 5PM
And so many people do not consider that Pastoring is a full time job!

Some one actually said to me that shebi Pastoring is about wearing suit and preaching on Sunday. I leemaoed, then told him to come and wear the suit.
A lot of young preachers buy into this lie and end up thinking this way

"I'd pastor, and then I'd have my work".

First things first! PASTORING IS A FULL TIME JOB OOO!!!!

Consider that to pastor a church means to be at the top of your administrative excellence!
You must understand leadership, financial resource management and most of all Human Resources!

You must read your market, understand your market and appeal to the market, whilst maintaining the originality of your product.

Am I still talking about Pastoring?! Very Yes ooo!!!
And I haven't gotten to the spiritual and actually Pastoring duties ooo...

I mean, studying long hours to prepare a 45 min - 1 hr 15 min sermon.

Checking up on people who need to be checked up on

And finally, long protracted hours of Prayers!
To be honest, it is a lot of work!

Truth be told, it's more tedious than a lot of 9-5s out there... There's no break form Pastoring!

So Please Young Pastor. YOU HAVE A JOB!

Especially if you're a pioneer!
Am I saying that as a pastor, you shouldn't start a business or get job?!

No ooo!

But Sha know that one will suffer!

You cannot carry two visions whole heartedly at the same time!

So my advice focus on the call first!
Focus your all on the call, build structure, setup the ministry. This takes some time...

But once it's in place, you can ease a little and think of business ideas.

I'd do another thread for financing your life as a young pastor.

But for now, focus on the call

Hope this helps?
