Here is an example of one busy road in London crossing two boroughs. King Street/ Chiswick High Road. One council took action yesterday to install a pop-up cycleway @LBHF the other hasn’t yet @LBofHounslow It’s the planned Cycleway9 route #CW9. Thread 1.
The response to the Statutory Guidance COVID19 in London is patchy. In King Street in Hammersmith there is suddenly almost one mile of pop up bike segregation that has appeared today in just a few hours @LBHF (thank you) @StephenCowan 2.
Further on the road In Hounslow (Chiswick High Road) there is no pop up bike infrastructure at all. There is talk and a consultation which closes in about a month. Same road, same trip, same quiet Sunday afternoon. @LBofHounslow @CllrSteveCurran 3.
Here’s the border with Hounslow where the segregation suddenly stops. You can carry on cycling mixing with cars, taxis and buses on the road with the highest number of cyclist casualties in the area. Car volumes are now 50% of normal and climbing fast. Light goods up to 75% 4
Here’s the stretch covered by the new bike lane in Hammersmith. I am told that London is running out of dividers as they are being installed widely in some boroughs. I hope Hounslow and other boroughs have some available and put them in. It takes a day. End/
