Hello @emigre80 @firedup79 @NYCanegirl @MrTamhas @RabbiJill @pithypacky @Utleyjacobite @TheSteveTheCat @GangstaMimi @gkanders @Boschii @BillieO2 @DianeToucan @tulipglory. I'm sure you are all aware of Biden's "gaffe". For a moment I'd like you to consider something, what if it
wasn't actually a gaffe, but rather a strategic move? Before you discount my question out-of-hand, please allow me to explain why I believe that it was either a brilliant gaffe or a strategic play. (1) Joe Biden sounded like 'Joe,' and many people, including your truly, wrote off
the comment as "Joe being Joe." The interesting thing about this is that the narrative since the debates has been that Joe is feeble, that he has lost it, etc. When he made his "You ain't Black" comment he said it with the faux Black accent that many White men and women use
sometimes when they address a Black audience. I've seen/heard this voice from Joe a lot over the years. The message this sends is that he's the same "Noun, verb, 9-11" guy from 2008. It's familiar which, subliminally, will give comfort. (b) In '16 Black women voted as they always
do, but Black men did not. In fact, overall voter participation by the Black community was at a 20 yr low in '16. This means Black men didn't show up. To put the significance of this in perspective, Black voter turnout was higher in '04 when Kerry was the nominee and '00 when
Gore was the nominee than it was in '16. Biden wants and needs to get those voters back. By creating this 'controversy' you know what he has done? He has put the issues important to Black men specifically and POC writ large into the forefront or worded differently, into play.
How? Well, a higher percentage of POC are dying of Covid, so it's an issue important to the community. Moreover, Charlottesville, kids in cages, separated families, police shootings and the failure of the DOJ to investigate said shootings, telling Congress-WOC to "go back where
they came from" have gone to the wayside in light of the pandemic. trump and the GOP cannot be let off the hook for this. RIGHT ON TIME the GOP took the bait. trump's team did a $1 million ad buy attacking Biden, bots were pushing "Biden is a racist" on social media, Fox,
Breitbart and other media outlets are touting it, even high profile trump sycophants were on the morning shows talking about it. Since none of the trump campaign smear tactics have worked (or test well with focus groups) they were hungry for a controversy. As always, they only
thought one step ahead. By going after Joe, hos campaign can now hot back by reminding people of trump (and by extension the GOPs) racist comments and actions. Since Joe is a White guy, there weren't many authentic ways he could both bring up race AND engage trump on the issue.
Biden's 'gaffe' has done the trick. While the trump and the GOP were putting together strategy, Biden apologized, and it was the BEST kind of apology because he owned it. He didn't give one of those faux apologies wherein someone says "I'm sorry if you misunderstood what I was
trying to say." No, he essentially said, "I f*cked up." First, this is the type of apology that tends to elicit forgiveness, secondly, it provides a contrast to trump who never apologizes. Now that Biden has gotten the conversation started, he has the opening he needs to discuss
the changes he will make that will help the Black community and the policies by which his administration will operate. You may ask "Well, why didn't he just state his policies?" Well, look at this thread. You will notice that I stage certain people when I have something I wish to
say. I rarely just tweet stuff in the hope that people will see it. If you want to be heard, people need to know you are indeed talking. With this controversy, Biden has gotten the attention of the group he wants to address. He can now discuss issues important to POC in every
interview and in his ads. Meanwhile, those dummies over at trump-central will now have to figure out a way to deflect the racist comments and actions of trump. Had they left the issue alone it would have been a one-sided convo, now it's two-sided and the contrasts can be easily
drawn. They say it's better to be lucky than smart, I'd say both are at work here. Perhaps Joe did make a lemon, but I think you will see his campaign make lemonade with it. I don't know that I'm right about all this, they are just my opinions. Thank you for listening/reading.
