shipping is great. love it. Do it all the time, but one downside is when an LGBT ship gets so popular and a tag becomes saturated it may sway a person looking for representation into making a purchase that in reality has nothing there for them at all

people get so into a ship they nearly make themselves believe that it's actually present in the text and will even accept reductive or meagre depictions as huge wins. It's good to make the distinction that fandom is doing the work here

I'm not talking about subtext and queer coding. I'm talking about pieces of media that are pretty much void of anything that get proclaimed as being "for the gays" because of fandom
