Now, here's a cool little thread for you:
At the moment I'm watching this video by Youtuber @MauLer93 responding to a moronic video by a SUYF about how the SUYF thinks horror games are more scarier with weapons.
At the same time, a day ago I've beaten the horror game Outlast, and began playing through another game, The Suffering; both of which share a similar premise of a haunted prison/asylum.

As I listen to @MauLer93's response, I know that the guy he's responding to is a moron...
...Because both games are terrifying and scary for different reasons: See, Outlast equips you with just a camera, and places you into nightmarish scenarios with no other options, whilst The Suffering gives you weapons, but works on your fears psychologically.
Outlast dis-empowers you heavily and makes you feel genuinely unsafe throughout, but The Suffering empowers you whilst making you question your sanity and quietly whispering in your ear "boo". And both games are incredibly frightening.
See (to quote MauLer himself), "It's All Contextual", and it's all down to what you do with your horror game, weaponless or armed.

Outlast and The Suffering are both great horror games, but to say that the latter is more scary due to a gun in your hand is thoroughly stupid!
To sum up this thread, Horror is Horror, gunless or not, but you have to put effort into it to make it GOOD horror.

P.S. Outlast is slightly better than The Suffering because you feel completely helpless.
