The entire universe is a mess, but for Shiro, everything is heaven. He wakes in joy, spends his days doting on his mate and fantasizing about their coming babe, and goes to sleep with dreams of his family. For once, all is perfect.
Nothing it seems can sour his mood. Even the haunting night terrors of his days as gladiator or Lotor's prisoner cease to hold sway over him as strongly as they once did. War, battle, rebellion--he's been embroiled with it for years.

Keith being pregnant though...
All thoughts were of Keith. Where once he might find the distracting thoughts troublesome, he happily lost himself to the tide of joy and wonder that his mate's swelling bell brought. Nothing could stem the flood of bone deep contentment that filled him.
Nothing, that was, until word came that Lotor had been spotted in the far reaches of the universe, coming out of hiding and preparing for a new onslaught against Voltron and the coalition.

Shiro's joy crumbled immediately, replaced by paralyzing terror.
Keith was sleeping when he went to his mate. Or Keith was trying to sleep. More often than not the omega was tossing and turning fitfully, unable to find a comfortable position now that his body was beginning to show signs of the little life within.
Shiro smiled sadly at the sight, tiptoeing to the edge of the bed just as Keith threw his hand over his head and turned onto his back. He laid a hand to the omega's face, watching tired violet eyes take him in and smile at his presence.

"You're early."
Shiro traced his thumb over the smooth cheek beneath his hand. "How do you know?"

"You're never here for nap time."

"I didn't know your naps were so scheduled."

That made Keith laugh. The only thing left of his scheduled life was naps. One nap after breakfast, one after lunch.
Shiro's eyes traveled down, finding the soft bump of blanket that Keith kept an arm protectively snug around. His inner alpha purred at the sight and he felt immeasurably better.

He laid his hand over Keith's pressing both their hands against the baby bump.
When his eyes flicked towards the column of Keith's neck he was caught. Often he found himself staring at the ugly mess of scar tissue Lotor had left on his mate, but the anxious set of his face must have given more away than Shiro thought.

Keith pulled his hand free.
"You've found him, haven't you?"

The question hung heavy in the air for a long moment. How did he answer? Shiro wasn't entirely certain. He was always honest with Keith, but when it came to this matter he wished to protect his mate from all word of it.
If there were danger though, Keith needed to know; for his own sake and the sake of their babe. Secrecy and silence had almost destroyed them all once; he refused to let it happen again.

Shiro hung his head with a defeated sigh. "He's been spotted. Making his way towards us."
