Ontario’s covid program is adrift because the premier is a self declared Republican with a simplistic and harmful governing mantra of cutting red tape so businesses prosper, and making government do less.

That’s about it. This government has no imagination or instinct for what the collective can or needs to do, unless it involves doing less. A weak cabinet only exacerbates the problem.

Ford’s saving grace has been not drinking RW koolaid about the pandemic being a hoax and acting forthrightly on keeping schools and the border closed. But getting past the first outbreak and avoiding a big second wave is going to require a lot more ingenuity and dexterity.
