Chains of causation are rarely simple but bear with me.

We now have a national political crisis over the actions of 1 unelected political advisor. This crisis endangers all of us because of the as yet unknowable effects on Covid-19 social compliance.

This advisor - Dominic Cummings - is only in his current role because of his previous role for the Brexit campaign. It's unlikely he would have ended up anywhere near this job without his Brexit role.
Equally, Boris Johnson would very likely not be PM but for the Brexit vote.

The Brexit vote had, of course, many complex strands of causation but it is almost undeniable that the role of the Labour Party and specifically Jeremy Corbyn was a pivotal factor in the Brexit vote.
Corbyn - a lifelong opponent of Europe - did much to enable the Brexit vote

If Corbyn had not been Labour leader at that crucial moment for the nation, it is somewhere between possible and highly likely that the Labour Party would have been a powerful force in making the case for remaining in the EU.

It was always going to be a tough sell to the disenfranchised Labour voters who were pulled over to the anti-EU argument, but a different Labour leader would have led from the front and led hard and relentlessly.
None of that happened. We got Corbyn and the rest is history.

No Corbyn = (probably/possibly) no Brexit.
No Brexit = no Boris Johnson (probably).
No Boris = no Cummings (almost certainly).
No Cummings = no dangerous national crisis of democracy at a time of national emergency over just 1 unelected individual.

So yes, by all means howl with outrage over the way this government has taken all its political chips, snorted an enormous line of political cocaine and then placed the entire pile on Dominic Cummings in a bet on the health outcomes of us all.

But do it with your eyes wide open & - if you were one of those who encouraged, supported & enabled the crank, racist takeover of Labour by Corbyn & his ilk from 2015-Dec 2019 - then save an extra howl of self disgust for yourself. Because this is (at least partly) on you.
