It takes like 10-15 seconds to swab a patient for COVID-19. In public it takes like around 20-30 min minumum to find PPE (if you ever find it), a further 10-15 min to fill out the paper work. Now just imagine having to care for these patients in a high care/ICU setting.
On top of this, alcohol sales will cause trauma cases to surge far beyond what they were even pre lockdown. I will not be surprised if the patients in casualty more than triples after the 1st of June. South Africa never had the resources to cope with our level of alcoholism
And normal level of disease. Now add COVID-19 to the mix. I just want to fast track through this year because having to know myself, my wife, my father, my brother, my sister and my brother in law are all medical professionals is just too much anxiety to deal with
And then dealing with people telling me COVID is a myth. Actually STFU, come work in a hospital with barely any masks, see the patients coughing around you, and know we aren’t screening them properly. You’ll be shaking and want to run for cover to your bed where you tweet from

So @helenzille and the DA. If you say the health system of SA is so ready. Stand next to me on my next call in Gauteng, or any of my family members or friends in the Western Cape and do a call in casualty exactly how they do. First lets see if you can stand the >24 hour call..
And then lets see after that if you’re not scared shitless by the lack of protection, the lack of resources, the lack of staff to not only handle the normal burden of disease in SA (Western Cape included), forget even thinking about COVID-19
I wish the public could see. We stand in our public hospitals making dark jokes about who we would rather have intubate us if we got sick. We laugh because we can never find PPE. We laugh at how our COVID swabs take 2 weeks to get results. We laugh because we are powerless.
