honestly, im struggling with the comphet discussion on my tl.

heterosexuality, when you understand it as an institution, is inherently coercive for all non-men irrespective of where they fall on the spectrum of attraction.
as such, i always understood comphet and the lesbian experience to be an attempt at studying how lesbians navigate the institution of heterosexuality under a microscope.
in doing so, i never felt that comphet and the lesbian experiences ever implied that non-lesbians, including straight women, exist free of coercion.

heterosexuality is inherently coercive, but when you're authentically heterosexual, you cope differently and w/ different things.
from what i gather, people are debating whether heterosexuality and its performances can be both inherently coercive but not inherently (or, at least, necessarily) compulsive in the context of that theory??? and this is centered around the experiences of straight women???
i think some of my difficulty is that i don't necessarily care to understand what it is authentically heterosexual women are experiencing with relation to heterosexism and/or compulsory heterosexuality?

i'm wary of conversations like these that center straight (cis) women...
