saniwas, pets & familiars: a hc thread

note: there could be some triggering themes in this thread so thread carefully.

Hane didn't plan to have a familiar. All her life, she had been the constant target of many yokai's mischief for as long as she could remember. It made her to be wary of them. Despite that, she did had fond memories of leaving inarizushi for foxes just to test the myth out.
That was until one of the tantous found a mysterious looking bamboo tube with talisman paper wrapped around it. The papers along with the tube vanished and in its place was a kudagitsune. He was different than the Konnosuke assigned for her citadel, resembling a bit like Naki's.
Almost immediately after seeing her face, the small fox had called her its master, much to her surprise. It swore its loyalty to her, saying that it was something of a duty for it. Having no choice but to go along with it, Hane decided to name it Shu.
Shu is a sweet little fox. It got along quite well with the swords & lived up to its oath for Hane, often tagging along with her whenever she joins her swords to the frontline & expeditions. It's small enough to fit in the hood she wear or perch onto any sword's shoulders.
True to its word, Shu did show some overprotective tendencies. It would defend its master if one were to raise their voice or be rude/threatening towards her. This fox also became one of the reasons why inarizushi has became a permanent menu item in Hane's citadel.

The Kunugi had a long history with having Uwabamis as their familiar. Many assumed that Yanagi & Asagi wouldn't have one because it was their maternal aunt (their mother's youngest sister) who showed potential as a Saniwa instead of their mother. She had an Uwabami instead.
That was until on the morning of the twins' 12th birthday, two small baby snakes appeared curled up near their heads by their futon. It did freaked them out at first, but eventually, their maternal grandmother & the aunt explaining about the legend.
The snakes serve as a protector to the twins of sort. They are able to merge themselves with their masters by turning into body tattoos that move around, allowing them to put protection spells to work & telepathically communicate. The twins can't feel them moving around on them.
The Uwabamis also serve as a seal breaker when it comes to spiritual abilities, mainly for Yanagi. She lacks in control for her spiritual energy, hence a seal has to be put on her as to not overdo it. Her Uwabami is able to puncture the seal via painless bites & seal it back.
The Uwabamis' appearance are influenced by their masters', hence the twins' look quite similar. To tell them apart, Yanagi named hers Gin while Asagi calls hers Aoba. Gin prefers wrapping herself around Yanagi's arms & Aoba prefers being on Asagi's shoulders instead.
