The system that is American is broken in ways that can no longer be swept under the rug. But still there are those who are trying...They are trying to make new rugs.
If there is no fundamental change there will be a fundamental crash that will make the 1930's crash appear tame.
This thread is in no way fully worked out or edited. It is a first draft of what I consider to be important issues, points, and resources.

It is today's spit into the wind.
The system we have has incredible inertia. It does not want to change, and there are plenty of people & institutions in positions of power who are more than wanting to perpetuate that power.

Usually it takes a crisis of equivalent, but opposite energy, to shatter a fundamental
system.
In 1517 it was the reformation that ultimately broke the total grip of the Catholic Church on Europe.
1917 and World War 1 changed...well, everything. From how nations were organized, to implementing the power of the Industrial Revolution for the purposes of war.
WW2 added incredible changes. Chemical, energy, economic, the rise of USA as global power and etc....

Others of course. The Civil War era is directly analogous to our own time.

And now this time. Even before COVID, the structures were rickety. Now, with the double assault
of Trumpism and a pan epidemic everything is up in the air.

What has been will not be.

What is not as certain is how what will be, will be structured.

It could resolve into a fascist/authoritarian state where the central unit is the "FatherLand", not the citizen. Ie,
where the source of the authority & power of the government (and related systems) is not the "Consent of the Governed", but the Corporation. The reification of function and progress.
It is an impossible Gordian Knot.

Regardless, the knot will be resolved or it will be cut by some modern Alexander.

The world holds its breath in anticipation.
