Making the case for #TechnicalEcstasy and #NeverSayDie

1. These have been admonished for so long, it’s become groupthink without challenge

2. I’ve noticed that most ‘critics’ claiming these as some of the worst Sabbath LPs also have #Paranoid as their #1

THREAD
Remember #BlackSabbath had just released 6 KILLER & consistent albums in 5 years.

Clearly it was time to experiment just a little.

Plus, it was 1976, by now the band had travelled the world, influenced beyond just the sounds of post-war Birmingham.

And yes, drugs. Lots of em.
#TechnicalEcstasy

TE isn’t Paranoid or SBS part 2. This is #Sabbath Prog Rock. There’s nods to #Genesis, Yes, and #Aerosmith

“All Moving Parts” & “Rock n Roll Doctor” could have been penned by Tyler & Perry.

“It’s Alright”? Ok I’ll give you that one. Their “Yellow Submarine”.
#NeverSayDie

Not as much of a curveball as TE, but you can’t accuse #Sabbath of treading water.

Driving rock, warped synth FX, #Chicago-esque brass section on “Breakout”, the nod to #TheDoors on “Air Dance”, and Ward singing again on the southern bluesy “Swinging the Chain”.
So in summary, I’m not claiming these to be the best #BlackSabbath albums but they’re far from the garbage most seem to think them of.

My take is that you just need to view them through a different lens.

The world only needs one “War Pigs”.

Fin.
