If you truly believed that Trump is an existential threat to our nation and that we& #39;re all going to die if we don& #39;t vote Biden, then being at the very least civil to leftists and progressives and honestly making genuine policy concessions would be a small price to pay.
But somehow, the price you& #39;re willing to pay is always in concessions to the right. If you genuinely need our vote then you should be trying to earn it... but either you believe you don& #39;t, you believe that moving leftward is worse than Trump, or that badgering on Twitter works.
If it& #39;s the first, you have no room for negotiations from us because you& #39;re coming here with nothing. If it& #39;s the second, well, so much for existential threats. And if it& #39;s the third, then there& #39;s no room for complaints when people shout about M4A or college debt forgiveness.
Listen, I& #39;m in California and my vote for president isn& #39;t going to matter. If California is lost to Trump you were already screwed. But let& #39;s get real for a minute. If you& #39;re going to tell me that I can push Biden leftward once he& #39;s in office... why on Earth should I believe it?
What possible reason would he have to do so? He knows he has our votes regardless of what he does. You can say "change takes time" but I& #39;m not a child. Why would any of the Democrats want to change if they don& #39;t have to?
After another 20 years of chiding and being told to be pragmatic and patient I& #39;ll be 60 and the world will be on fire and the Republicans will still be a threat so we need to stay pragmatic and not offer anything that people might want to believe in.
In which case I guess I should regret that Biden didn& #39;t win because if he had I might& #39;ve gotten Medicare at 60. Not that my vote would& #39;ve made any difference.
