What I want to ask y’all is why you think it’s that label that’s holding them back rather than the western’s general dislike/disrespect towards people who don’t speak English and aren’t white making any type of art https://twitter.com/jmn_filter/status/1264564415971688448
We’re not the ones holding them back. Labeling someone with an industry theyre associated with an a genre they are sometimes apart of doesn’t negate the work they do.
This is largely an oversimplification of preexisting ideas and biases about Asian people and their value in artistry or entertainment.
The industry will label them however and STILL neglect to give them any credit or accolades just because they aren’t the ideal image for the people behind the scenes to buy into. Having preconceived notions about everyone under a certain label is and always will be what is
harmful. It’s no different from how they want to categorize everything black as urban. No matter what kind of music it is, they want to slap that label on it. We already know they do that, so would you assume that labels are the “real” issue in that situation
Rather than the industry’s perception of the artists they’re labeling?
