Students hate biology because they are forced to learn taxonomy before evolutionary biology.

To make things worse, evolution is barely mentioned even at undergraduate level in India. https://twitter.com/QuantaMagazine/status/1264590034839224320
I don't think we had more than 10 one hour classes in 3 years of doing a BSc.
Things haven't changed much. Look at the syllabus for BSc Zoology 🤦🏾‍♂️

Evolution is NOT EVEN mentioned in the undergraduate syllabus for microbiology. https://bangaloreuniversity.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Microbiology.pdf

We should be thankful there is 'a brief account' for antibiotic resistance. 🤷🏾‍♂️
You do learn a little evolutionary biology if you are a genetics student, but only in your final semester.

And other than basic genetics, there is nothing about evolution if you are studying biochemistry.

Physics is yet to find its Grand Unified Theory, but biology already has one!

Evolutionary biology should be the central overarching theme of everything biology, and yet we barely talk about it 😡 😭
As a student 20 years back, I used to be angry because my syllabus seemed to be stuck in the early 19th century.

I'm even angrier now because most kids will never get to see how beautiful biology is.
/the end.
Adding 2 bits before I go do the dishes.

1. I haven't even started on (the lack of) statistics + critical thinking OR History/Philosophy of Science in our syllabi.

2. Waiting for @peeleraja to jump in here saying "Evolution is only a theory" 😉
