Re: Business is business. The thing about scarcity of opportunities is that It creates beasts and also empower them to unleash their wickedness on talents and creatives. Abundance changes everything.
At some point there will be more deals chasing talents. Demand and supply will align. That’s when you will see that it’s not standard practice to screw people up because your label is signing them in the name of ‘business is business’.
If your MO is handling people contracts that screw them up. At some point talents will have options and they will tell each other to avoid your label like a plague. I’ve seen this happening in tech. Founders now take time to do DD on investors. Pre 2016, people jumped at any deal
There are lots of stories we can share on this matter. I’ll share more if/when we start that that our close & payment only community. But the truth is at some point, people start having options and they can tell you & your devil’s agreement to GTFO! It’s called industry maturity.
Last last, bad agreements are bad for both the talent and the person backing them, and they are bad for industries. This jungle needs maturity.

Maturity = More money, more labels, savvy lawyers & advisers, Talents becoming wealthy enough to back other talents.
