My family and I do this thing where we get into a TV show together and watch it every night. Here is a list of what we’ve watched over the years that may help solve quarantine boredom:
OUTNUMBERED: I’m pretty sure most people will have heard of this but it’s a British comedy following the life of a fictional family, and you get to see them grow up over the years.
DERRY GIRLS: A comedy about a group of Irish girls and one English boy during the Troubles. My dad says it has the funniest opening scene of any TV show ever.
MODERN FAMILY: One of our favourites. It’s basically Outnumbered but American. Phil and Gloria are two of the funniest characters from it.
TRAVEL MAN: Richard Ayoade takes celebrities on holiday basically. Ayoade’s humour is brilliant and witty and we’ve since seen a lot more from him.
GADGET MAN: Richard Ayoade again but instead of holidays he finds the most interesting and weird technology he can.
PARKS AND RECREATION: Our most recent interest. Don’t watch season 1 as it’s not great (except the first episode to understand the characters), but season 2 onwards is great, and from season 3 it’s brilliant. It’s very funny. Best characters include April, Ron and Leslie.
WOULD I LIE TO YOU: We haven’t watched all the episodes but we regularly watch it when it’s on. Lee Mack is incredibly quick-witted.
UNORTHODOX: A stray from our usual comedy genre. A drama on Netflix about an orthodox Jewish girl who escapes to Berlin. It’s well-written and is an interesting insight into the culture.
OUTER BANKS: My sisters forced me to watch this. I was expecting it to be as bad as Riverdale but I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, it has many cringe-worthy moments but it’s good if you just want something to binge.
1917: A well-written war film with some brilliant cinematography. It’s the kind of film I wish I’d made in terms of quality of writing, visual effects, acting and all round production.
RACE ACROSS THE WORLD: 5 pairs have the equivalent of a plane ride in money to get across a certain place. Very interesting and enjoyable and you get to see cool places that aren’t the usual tourist hotspots. Very gripping finale.
AFTER LIFE: a great balance of very funny and very depressing.
