The easiest solution to mass incarceration is keeping boys & men from entering the system by eliminating criminal deviance, esp violence, but it’s hard to rally people to care about the prevention side as much. Why is that? Thoughts?
72% of those in prison are locked up for violence crime (the majority) and property crime. So: how do we keep guys from acting out violently? How do we eliminate violence? https://www.prisonpolicy.org/reports/pie2020.html
72% of juvenile murderers, and 60% of rapists came from single mother homes. So, we need to confront the marriage, the fatherhood crisis, and moral virtue. By “fatherhood”
I mean “fathering well.”
I mean “fathering well.”
About 60% of incarcerated men were victims of childhood abuse or neglect. Abuse & neglect are very strong predictors of criminal deviance. 96% of prisons are men. So: we need to talk about protecting boys from abuse. Abused & neglected boys are the mostly likely to abuse others.
So: marriage, fathering, emotional thriving, the absence of abuse/neglect, etc. are the things that keep boys and men from entering the criminal justice system. But, again, interest in these interventions is low. Why is that? Why aren’t early interventions “justice?” Thoughts?!
