It is amazing to me a) how much “analytics” is misunderstood by the appointer keepers of the game (across all sports)
and b) how complicated [many] data analysts seem to make the description of their processes. https://twitter.com/hoopguru24_33/status/1264557239869685761
There’s a battle going on between “shut-up, Poindexter,” and “your tiny brain couldn’t begin to comprehend this r-value,” that no one is winning.
A great teacher has the ability to pivot, to re-attack a lesson from multiple angles and break complex concepts down into manageable pieces.

A good student approaches things with curiosity and says “I don’t quite understand— can you explain more?”
The disconnect is that the professors of analytics are often teaching lessons (tailored toward other Ph.Ds) to “students” who are constantly looking out the window, dreaming of the next time the ball is in their hands.
And something that should benefit everyone ends up becoming a shouting match between two sides that think being louder proves something.
*appointed... damn it
