The government looks set to announce an inquiry into Dominic Cummings which can be kicked into the long grass so they can fall back on "We don't want to pre-empt an inquiry so no comment" responses.

We don't need an inquiry. Cummings broke his own rules, and he has to resign.
What would the inquiry even investigate? We already know he took one trip against the rules, we have witness evidence suggesting a second and possibly even a third. What more is there to establish? Maybe ask if he stopped at a service station, but an inquiry should take an hour
