The keyword I use for Virgo is “critical” but in many senses:

- of critical importance
- a critical eye
- critical thinking / analysis

And yes,

- critical comments
Virgo excels at the behind-the-scenes unglamorous work that is of critical importance even if it goes unrecognized.

Virgo excels at detail focus / an eye for detail / a critical eye.

Critical thinking and analysis are main strengths of the Virgo archetype.
But being critical of themselves and others (mostly themselves) is as much a weakness as a strength for Virgo. It’s almost never coming from a place of hate. Virgo can just see all the ways a person or thing has the potential to improve and desires to see that improvement.
This is why Venus struggles in Virgo—it’s hard to feel relaxed, comfortable, or lovey-dovey when you’re acutely aware of how things could improve. It’s hard to create art because part of creation is letting go and putting something you see as imperfect out into the world.
The lesson/challenge for Virgo planets is learning acceptance of things and people as they are. Especially yourself. Repeat to yourself “Just because I could be better doesn’t mean I’m not already good enough.”

You can improve more efficiently when it’s about adding, not fixing.
Whatever’s going on with your Mercury will impact how your Virgo placements get expressed. For example: Mercury in Aries or Leo, where the Sun is Exaltation or Domicile Lord, is going to make the Virgo placements need attention and recognition more. https://twitter.com/madmarg_/status/1264565106614173704
