lrt real talk though, yibo's perspective and approach to fame is so fascinating. he's extremely straightforward and practical about it, to the point of ~almost~ rudeness sometimes when responding to interview questions he deems silly, and at the same time he's so aware of what-
-he himself is capable of. see wugan "i'm not as good as you think i am, nor am i as bad as they say" i mean!!!! what kind of extremely pragmatic and matter-of-fact attitude to approach fame and the amount of opinions people have about him day in and day out!! the way he tries-
to present himself as truthfully as possible, his seemingly blasé attitude (thinking about that one interview he was asked if he ever thought about quitting and he was just like, no, i wanted this and came this far, why quit now?), and how it all is reflective of his personal-
-motto of "做好自己" (be yourself, do the best you can for yourself). GOSH!!!! anyway, wang yibo is a fascinating way to think about subversion in celebrity culture and i love him 😫😫😫
AND ANOTHER THING (coming back to this thread 2 hrs later cause i'm never not thinking about celebrity culture): i really wonder how much of this is a defense mechanism in response to the fame and scrutiny and how much of this is actually just how yibo lives his life? bc i could-
-never live the way yibo does (aka i'm constantly overthinking and that would def only be amplified by any amount of fame), which is part of the reason why his attitude is so interesting to me (bc i could never!!) but again, just thinking about the gap between what celebrities-
-allow us to see of them (and which parts are shown without their consent, hello stalkers and also shows that force moments of vulnerability for good drama/content!!) and who they are in private. i'm so curious if this is how yibo actually acts in his day to day, and he's given-
-us no reason to think that it's NOT. anyway just me thinking about the gaps between what we see from our favorite celebs and who they truly are 😔
