This thread is about the relationship between @BritneySpears and @Xtina. I'm tired of seeing fans fighting so here's some tea for you.
They've known each other for 25 years and are tired of the comparisons, hence the rare occasional shade. But it's all love here!

⬇️
Britney and Xtina have become famous at the same time. Between 1993 and 1995, they appeared on the Mickey Mouse Club, along with @JTimberlake and Ryan Gosling. They were actually really close friends.
After they left the show, they both went to various auditions. In 1998, Xtina got to release "Reflection", a song for Mulan, and she signed her contract. Britney released the legendary "… Baby One More Time."
One year later, Xtina released the also legendary "Genie in a Bottle." Both songs went #1, both songs were sung by former Disney girls, by young innocent-looking teenagers. Both songs were bubblegum pop. You got it! The media started pitting them against each other real quickly…
Obviously, the media couldn't stand two women slaying the charts at the same time.
Xtina's debut sold 17M copies worldwide and got her 3 #1 hits in the States.
Britney's debut sold 25M worldwide and went diamond in the US.
Both albums were HUGE and they crushed any competition.
The media-created feud went even further when they were both nominated for the Best New Artist Award at the 2000 Grammys. Xtina won but they both kept slaying the charts.
Actually, they both never really cared about that feud. It was really fueled by the media and misogyny + the record companies trying to create some tension and hype. In 2000, they both met on the set of a TRL photoshoot and they hugged each other.
Around the same time, Xtina praised Britney and called her a super sweet girl and said that she loved to see her backstage at award shows, etc. Several times actually Xtina said that they grew up and discovered this tough industry at the same time.
They indeed met for several occasions and the TV networks always tried to make them connect in some ways. Here on TRL, when Xtina called Britney live and they said they missed each other.
They reunited at the 2000s VMAs when they decided to put the rumors to rest by introducing the legendary Whitney Houston together. They arrived hand in hand, smiling, looking like two super excited friends.
Xtina couldn't stand the "girl next door" attitude her record company imposed on her so she decided to become sexier. In early 2001, she collaborated with P!nk, Mya and Lil Kim on "Lady Marmalade." The song went #1 but Xtina went under much criticism for her new sexy look.
Britney's image was already very sexy (even though more "polished") and she released "Slave 4 U." The song was a sexual, almost filthy banger. Britney showed her pride and she was right to because the video was amazing!
One year later, after the success of "Lady Marmalade" (even though media called Xtina too "raunchy"), Xtina released "Dirrty." It's perhaps one of the most controversial videos of all time. TIME even called her a hooker. Some comparisons were made between "Dirrty" & "Slave 4 U."
Yes: once again, the media couldn't stand two women becoming sexual and proud of their femininity at the same time, two women becoming powerful. The rest is history: both songs are literal pop classics. None of them ever addressed the stupid comparisons.
While promoting the excellent "In The Zone", Britney said that Xtina has an excellent voice and that her latest album ("Stripped") was "brilliant."
In another interview, she said "Stripped" actually inspired her and that it was a strong record with a message. Once again, total respect from Britney to Xtina. They kept praising each other, despite the media always bringing the other up.
At the end of this performance, you can see Britney applauding Xtina and actually crying. Many times during that time, Britney said that she wished she had a voice like Xtina's.
Shortly after, Xtina toured with @JTimberlake, her friend from the Mickey Mouse Club but also Britney's ex. The media wanted people to think that X was dating Justin, in order to create some drama, but Xtina was already dating her soon-to-be husband (now former husband) Jordan.
Xtina & Britney performed with Madonna at the 2003 MTV VMAs. The Queen of Pop crowned them Pop Princesses that night but Madonna kissed Britney first, in front of Justin and it kind of overshadowed Xtina's kiss. At the end of the day, it remains a legendary feminist performance.
Britney and Xtina exchanged wedding gifts and presents when they gave birth to their sons. They didn't actually meet, but they still thought of each other and cared about one another. Xtina said that they would always be there for each other, even as "friends from afar."
Here is Xtina saying how happy she is about Britney giving birth and how crazy it is to see her becoming a mother after knowing her for such a long time.
Britney went through a very dark time in 2006-2007 and Xtina never made fun of her. Actually, she defended her in an interview, saying that the industry was becoming harder on people and that no one should judge because people didn't know what Britney was going through.
Actually, Xtina reached out to her. She wrote her a letter and they exchanged back and forth for some time. In that radio interview from 2010, you can tell that the journalists are trying to get some shade, but Xtina defends Brit again.
In 2012, when Britney joined X Factor, Simon Cowell (a well-known misogynist) wanted to re-ignite the supposed feud, but Britney refused to play his game and actually praised Xtina, calling her a "good friend."
Xtina said that she was so happy and excited to see Britney join the music competition family. She said that Britney was super talented, that she was a "pro" and a strong female.
In 2011, Xtina congratulated Britney on the release of "Femme Fatale" and Britney replied that she couldn't wait to watch X on The Voice.
Xtina went viral in 2015 when she made a Britney impression on Jimmy Fallon's show. It was spot on! Britney said the next year that it was an honor to have Xtina doing an impression of her!
The impression:
Britney's reaction:
In 2018, Britney said that she would love to reunite with Xtina and all the others for a Mickey Mouse Reunion. And we agree that it should definitely happen to put these stupid fan wars to rest.
In the same year, Xtina said that she would love to collab with Britney. And she also said that one of her favorite songs of all time was "Breathe On Me" and that she would have loved to record it! She said it's super "sexy" and she loves to jam out to it.
While promoting her Vegas residency in 2019, Xtina said that she hated the way women were always pitted against each other and torn apart, and that it was important for her to support Britney and her residency in Vegas.
It's been 20 years since they debuted. They both had their share of shady moments but they grew up together, entered a dangerous industry for young women, went through very tough times, became mothers, became legends. They both had to fight to be recognized as serious artists.
The "rivalry" always being brought up annoys them. We should focus on their mutual respect. They never meant to hurt each other, they're just always trapped by journalists and sexism. And it's exhausting.
They're two entirely different artists. Two legends in their own way.
LOVE
