Okay, here is the thread! A woman was walking alone before the break of dawn in Medina when she was accosted by a man & he raped her!! She started crying & ran to the houses around & cried to them that she has been raped! The occupants of this house then took her to Muhammad(PBUH https://twitter.com/king_Bello7/status/1264547443775016969
When she was narrating the story, some of the companions of the Prophet brought in a man & said they found him loitering & they don't know where he's from! On sighting the man, this woman exclaimed "This is the person that raped me" she was certain that he was the culprit.
The Prophet faced the man & started interrogating him verbally but this man swore that he wasn't the one! The matter dragged for long because both the man & the woman maintained their story. It was her word against his! Miraculously, a man came forward & said he was overcame by
Guilt & that he is the one that committed the disgusting act! He confessed! The Prophet asked him multiple times if he really did it, & he said yes he did! After ascertaining that he was the culprit, he was executed for his crimes! You see, rape is a very terrible act under
Islamic law & it attracts extreme punishments! Now, the lessons in this story-
1- This happened in Medina! The woman would have been covered head to toe & she was still raped! Some people are animals & their hunger for rape isn't aroused by wearing revealing clothes
2- The woman
Was not asked what she was doing alone at night! Because your location should not determine whether you get raped or not!
3- The man she accused of the rape act wasn't punished because she said he raped her! Regardless of how 'sensitive' this might sound, we can't go about
Crucifying people because someone accused them of rape. The Woman believed wholeheartedly that this Man raped her & it would have been unwise if the Prophet had passed judgment based on the words of her mouth. For an accused to be punished for rape, there should be a reasonable
Level of evidence that he/she did it. Finally, Because the perpetrator 'confessed' his crimes doesn't exempt him from the punishment of the crime! His forgiveness will come in front of his Creator but he'll still be punished for it on earth to serve as deterrent to others.
End!
Final tweet- I know I'm not an expert on psychology & how strong rape victims are to 'raise alarm' but in this case, if the woman didn't raise alarm immediately, she wouldn't have gotten justice. So, I think it is best for victims to speak up immediately if they can.
