Day 12 / 17. Counting down to the day we return to our Shanghai bubble. These pix represent just a fraction of the no. of times we were stopped from doing our jobs in Beijing. Yes, I know its (1) BJ, (2) #TwoSessions, & (3) there are #COVID19 distancing measures to abide by 1/n
But this is just an extremely a tough city for foreign media, and specifically, broadcast media. You have the arbitrariness (when asked, no legal basis could be given for why we can't film on public street)... 2/n
The inability of the 'system' to cater to exceptions (broadcast media deprived of spots this year to do liveshots outside the Great Hall of the People just have to find random, public spots)... 3/n
... the primacy of the security apparatus above all, the fear and repression you are made to feel when you've done nothing wrong. I'm not whining. It's unpleasant but i accept it. I'm just saying maybe think twice if you're committing to life here as a broadcast correspondent 4/4
