They were indoctrinated to believe Americans and the allies were doing the same thing they ended up doing (and the allies were, so let's not forget that). Remember the 100,000 Americans would die if we did a land invasion?

Nope, that was a lie, it was only like 15k max, and was the US manipulating their own people into being ok with dropping the nukes. If Americans knew what they did, we would've been loudly against it prior to their usage.

I can't offer the opinion of all japanese, only the ones I interviewed, but the general outlook to their imperialism during and before WWII was:

Governments were significantly more manipulate than they are now, due to the lack of the internet existing. WWII was largely each government censoring what they were doing to try to get the general population to believe whatever they were told.

Think of if concentration camps existed in 2020? That shit would be ALL over LiveLeak. Everyone would know the truth. It's so much harder for the government to lie to the people because of the free flow of information.
