"If life were fair, then this legend would be lauded in his pursuit of a historic fifth WWF championship. Instead, he's a fallen idol, America's public enemy no. 1. Respect abandoned, legacy bludgeoned and spat upon by a society he feels condones defiance and perpetuates hate."
"If life were fair, then this mighty champion, this survivor of deception and conqueror of all earthly Hells would surely revel in the championship spotlight. The bright lights wouldn't singe his aura, illuminating a dark, horrifying secret from a distant past."
"And if life were fair, then this man might still be champion, dancing, flying, showcasing his extraordinary talents to legions of fans. He wouldn't be an athlete betrayed by an unwilling knee, a man surrendering a boyhood dream to search for the lost smile of youth."
With that introduction of two fascinating stories and a guy pretending his knee hurts so he doesn't have to do jobs, it's a request! Undertaker defends the WWF championship against Bret Hart at SummerSlam 1997, with Shawn Michaels as the referee.
The main event made for some real cool graphics and shit for this show. Stridex!
Also my favorite wrestling event poster ever, probably.
"There is nothing between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Anything that was once there was settled last year at WrestleMania when I beat him. I am here to be an impartial, unbiased, fair referee, and nothing will get past the keen eye of Shawn MIchaels."
THAT'S MY DAD
Bret would like everybody to listen to the Canadian national anthem. Also, he's vowed that if he loses this match, he will never wrestle in the United States again.
Cannot stress enough how correct you all are that this guy was really, really cool.
JR: "Now all the other WWF referees are gonna want pyro."
It's the World Wrestling Federation champion, in his second reign, but in all reality his first. The win in '91 only lasted a few days and was just a bridge to set up a vacancy so that Hogan wouldn't have to lose the belt to Flair.
This rules.
Lights come on with a BOOM this time and it gives Bret the willies.
