Joe Biden's words cut deep into the heart of an opinion. Not a progressive opinion or a socially democratic opinion, but an ESTABLISHMENT opinion. A kind of unspoken opinion that is seen as an assumption; as a "DUH" in many democratic circles. 'Isn't it obvious that black people
will vote for us? I mean, c'mon, where else would they go?' There is a inherent notion that we black people are monolithic and think as one collective and somehow don't look at policy or substance. The only thing the establishment THINKS we look at is the "D" next to someone's
name. This is VERY far from the truth especially in this thriving information age. The entitlement and hubris of the establishment is dated and worked well with many of our parents and grandparents but this now falls dead in the water with those of us in this new generation. The
interesting part is that this 'mask off' moment also showed our elders what we see and they are now wiping their seasoned eyes from this sleep and lull that has been on many of them for the past 40 years. THEY were taken advantage of. THEY were used and abused by the very party
that said that they were in solidarity with them. Biden's words NEEDED to be said, ESPECIALLY on a platform that is not as frequented by high-level politicians of Mr. Biden's caliber. This reaches into many apolitical ears of many black people who were on an automated "vote blue
no matter who" setting. You see, in the black community, it's ASSUMED that you're a democrat. Saying anything else otherwise gets you a twisted face or side eyes or even worse, ostracized by your own people the siding with the "racists and heartless rich people". My message isn't
FOR the GOP or the right-wing, it's an anecdotal socially democratic view of this rhetorical event that happened and why he is wrong and the background as to why he even formed his neoliberal lips to say such a thing. So this "VBNMW" auto setting is the "DUH" reason why you see
so many black people at democratic caucuses, rallys, positions, etc. But now we are 'woke' and that "D" next to someone's name doesn't mean anything to us anymore. Now we are asking, "what is this person's policies especially as it relates to the black community?" We now look
past the lable and at the ingredients list of who is trying to get our votes. Just assuming we will won't mean shit and it's becoming apparent with the younger generation. Thankfully our elders are waking up to it as well (although slowly) and this will spark a new era of how
politicians engage with black people. So I deep what Biden said as reprehensible but necessary. We needed to see the truth especially for our apolitical and older black Americans so that the rouse can be broken and we can start demanding more from those whom WE HIRE. Hopefully
one day we will never have to hear the words out of a politician say #YouAintBlack
