1/3 While most of the ppl r mesmerised by the beauty of Madurai MEENAKSHI AMMAN temple, very few r aware of the fully functional ancient RAIN WATER HARVESTING sys in place at this temple.Pipes camouflaged as columns cn b found in the temple which take water frm the terraces to 
2/3 to d underground water tank called GOLDEN LOTUS tank. Also water frm every nook n corner of temple premise drains into same tank. Only brilliant civil engineers cld hv achieved a slope which allows water to drain in 1 direction on land,12 acres,in size.
3/3 Each Santana temple is a textbook, which needs to b deciphered. Other than being centres of spirituality and visually beautiful architecture, each temple served a purpose. I can only hope more and more Sanatanis will tk interest in temple architecture. 
I got curious abt this when few days ago a fren sent me pic of “school of vedic science” whch had captured a RAINWATER pipe. I always knew Meenakshi temple hides in itself many secrets, with time we might unravel more.
