This is literally the state of our farm @Pithubar_Farms #Dibrugarh at present. “We” were following strict quarantine rules and social distancing due to #COVID19 and now even our animals are made to follow strict quarantine rules and social distancing due to the #ASF pandemic!!

The show must go on.. as we struggle to make amends with the realities of #Covid_19 ..

..we still need to carry on with our lives. Initially we stayed home. Under lockdown. In quarantine. But that only punctured our economy while some businesses shut down, companies laid off their employees and worst - “migrant” workers were (are) mistreated!!!

The show must go on.. while we make our changes and adapt (being the new normal now) to live with the virus; we, pig farmers in Assam now face the wrath of #AfricanSwineFever that has completely shut down our market.

- Ban on sale of pork (meat)
- Ban on sale of pigs or piglets.
- Ban on any kind of animal (pigs) movement/transport (intra district / inter district / inter state)

This has made the entire sector paralyzed!

The show must go on.. our farms have been under lockdown since Day 1 of Lockdown 1.0 and it’s still under Lockdown and our pigs are under complete Farm Quarantine. No visitors allowed with strict bio security measures being followed. And now, our funds have run out!!

It’s a #DoubleWhammy as we can’t make any income from selling our animals nor are banks lending any help. We are on our own now. Blank thoughts. Blank hope. Blank future.
Post #COVID19 Lockdown will -
1) Old farmers get out of this sector?
2) New farmers venture in this sector?

The show must go on.. despite all the stress, distress, anxiety and uncertainty we need to be hopeful. We need to stay positive. We need to stay motivated. We need to gather more strength. We need to find more fire in our belly.

Farmers need to stay united and stand by each other for any support and, together, pass this phase of #ASF!
Being a pig farmer in this sunrise sector was already one challenge and now facing this pandemic has made this challenge even more tough.

The show must go on.. Hence, our work in the farm continues as usual, despite all the difficulties. We will see this pandemic through!
