Got permabanned from r/conservative for pointing out that Google has a TOS, and that conservatives should be cool with their right to enforce it, even if it means removing conservative content.

Apparently this “violates the mission statement of r/conservative”. So.

2020, y’all.
The replies to that comment, by the way, were full of people saying Google censoring content was “unconstitutional”, and calling for more government regulation.

As far as I can tell, none of those replies got users banned.
It’s just SO HARD to find not-batshit-crazy conservatives on the internet. Every community is littered with patently misinformed, venomous, tribal lifestyle junkies.
Conservative because my dad was.

Conservative because I grew up in a red state.

Conservative because I’m religious.

Conservative because like guns.

These are all really shitty reasons to be a conservative. And yet they are the only ones anymore.
I’m a conservative, so I must...

...hate the liberals.

...love guns.

...be religious.

...revile people who aren’t like me.

...defend other conservatives who do things I disagree with.

Not a SINGLE ONE of these things is true.
And yet when conservatives gatekeep their communities, these are the criteria.

I long for a community that uses these beliefs as EXCLUSION criteria, but it seems to me that it would be a relatively small group.
I dunno. No point to this rant. Just a little disheartened that I can’t say “I’m a conservative” without people (understandably) lumping me in with the worst sorts of people. Hoping it changes.

Maybe I’ll make my own sub.
