“The Holy Bible is the Spirit-inspired Word of God.”

This doctrinal claim grounds Scripture in the unity of God. The Trinity is the one author who unites the diverse human authors behind God’s intention to unfold progressively the revelation of the mystery of the Christ.

1/
Modernists left and right have challenged nearly every aspect of this doctrinal claim through elevating the human above the divine. Contrary to the modernists, Christians must reclaim these axioms:

1. Scripture originates in the will of God.

2. Scripture is the Word of God.

2/
3. Scripture is inspired by the Holy Spirit of God.

4. God in his perfections expresses himself to us by Scripture. Divine perfection thus characterizes revelation.

5. The human authors were carried along by the Spirit to write what they wrote according to divine intent.

3/
6. As divine revelation Scripture retains divine perfection, and as a grace to humanity Scripture is accommodated to human capacity and human need.

7. As a divine-human text, Scripture must be interpreted according to its unity in theology and its diversity in human history.

4/
The unitary grace of divine revelation contradicts the claim that human authors received divine truth according to human will.

The biggest challenge from the left is its denial of Scripture’s perfection. The challenge from the right is in its elevation of human willfulness.

This thread is an explicit denial of both modernisms, Liberalism and Fundamentalism, those two errant groups of human beings locked in a fratricidal struggle over their own self-exalted capacities to grasp fully the origin, transmission, and reception of God’s own Holy Word.

6/
Orthodox Christians would do well to reject the hubris of Modernism in both its Liberal and Fundamentalist forms. This rejection ought also include the individualist and communist forms of that extreme Modernism known as Postmodernism.

Leave the modern Pelagians to themselves.
