Some important takeaways from end of my talk on intergenerational trauma & entrepreneurship at @Streaming_Color this AM (a thread)

1. Learn how to turn your disadvantage into your advantage.

You may have to get creative, but it's 100% possible with hard emotional work.
[2/9]

2. Grow flowers from ashes.

It’s not prime conditions, but you’d be amazed what simply your attempts can yield.

3. Build emotional intelligence.

So many of us lash out in pain because we can’t process our own emotions surrounding things that happen around and to us.
[3/9]

4. Prioritize your happiness.

Growing up in neglect leads children to not ask for what they need. We need to be fulfilled as human beings, and there’s no shame in requiring your basic needs be met. ❤️

5. You’re not required to feel shame.

Shame is a natural response to social expectations and ideological divergences. You’ll always experience it, but you can learn shame resilience, which will help you to recognize where you're getting in your own way.
[5/9]

6. Don’t expect to know what you want to do, or how you’re going to do it, any time soon. It will become more clear as you keep showing up.

So keep showing up.
[6/9]

7. Trust the process.

I’ve always made it my job to know the HOW, when in reality, you just have to understand that, really, things aren’t even in your control. Just let it be, put out the energy, and let it come to you naturally.
[7/9]

8. Learn to love yourself.

Throughout my life, I craved love and encouragement. But particularly for entrepreneurs, when you don’t have it externally, you need to be able to provide it to yourself.
[8/9]

9. Build peace into your life.

Children from abusive and traumatic homes don’t know the concept of peace. Our high alert is constantly on, and we worry about everyone else. Even a little bit of peace without a “but” attached to it is crucial.
[9/9]

10. Be kind to yourself.

What happened to us isn’t our fault, and we’re not doomed to fail as a result.

Now... go allow yourself to fly today. ❤️
