researching for my move and just came across a blog post where english expats read Spain to FILTH only because they didn’t get any jobs because they don’t speak spanish. There truly is nothing I hate more than british expats moving to spain.

I grew up around so many british people, in Valencia it’s always been a problem. Our class was 90% british and they refused to speak spanish. My neighbors were english & german, have lived there for 10+ more years and don’t bother learning the language but CONSTANTLY complained

Honestly it came to the point where I spoke better english than spanish because the language was dying out. I loved having people from a different country around me but I’m so sick of people moving there and making it little britain.

If a spanish person moved to the UK or germany and didn’t speak any english they wouldn’t get any jobs. Yet english & german people move to spain and never once think about learning spanish and then expect to have a great life where everyone works around them??

I’m not talking about everyone, I know a lot of young people make an effort. But shows like a place in the sun etc just make it a bigger problem. Everyone thinks they can retire and have a great life in Spain without making any effort to fit in.

I couldn’t possibly care less about what people want to do. Spain is a beautiful country so I understand. But please for the love of god just TRY to learn spanish and stop expecting rural places to speak english and get offended when they don’t want to hire you.

I know no one will understand this but I had to rant cause p.E, where I grew up, it’s not spain anymore. 90% of people living there are british or german. Spanish people are moving away because everything’s been made to accustom english people. It’s sad.

I grew up with british tv, british shops, british pubs. Honestly it’s mad how I grew up BRITISH in SPAIN. Menus in restaurants are english with a tiny spanish translation under it. spanish ppl are being sent to extra english classes otherwise they can’t continue their job.

why would you move there if you hate the language I ???? This whole thing is a MESS

one last thing: spain isn’t a great dreamy country. Corruption is insane. Government doesn’t give two shits. There are a lot of things wrong with it but they’re on the way up. Do your research about where you want to move before moving there and then doing this shit.
