Social distancing is important. But Toronto's collective brain meltdown over Trinity Bellwoods also seems connected to the city's teetotalling roots. It's like the Toronto Telegram publishing images of men & women cavorting together in a 1965 saloon. This city enjoys moral panic
I moved here from Montreal in 1998, and I feel like I've adapted to some extent. I actually even find myself *literally* tsk-tsking at neighbours' behaviour, like some superannuated spinster who spends her time in church monitoring the hemlines of other women...
Toronto was making progress in the 2000s...but then came social media, the perfect tool for monitoring hemlines & other barometers of turpitude, especially on the pretense of social justice. if you're an immigrant to this city, do not let the old wasps gaslight you. They're weird
for those who are actually interested in public health, please check my pinned tweet. young ppl milling about in an open-air park is not ideal, but also not where major spread happens.
