Comparing 4chan and twitter, both are terrible websites, but 4chan actually doesn't have aggravating all of its users and encouraging conflict built directly into its design.

On 4chan, people treated the general shittiness and hostility like a failure of moderation and community. On twitter it's basically a design philosophy and feature. There's not even a second thought given to how fucked and toxic the community, it's pretty much encouraged.

If every update 4chan had since like 2010 was based around encouraging more flame wars, spam, and general bad posting, the site wouldn't even be here. This isn't to say 4chan is some quality site, it's to say that twitter is not only encouraging users to be shit

They're doing it while not even caring about the community. What matters is ad revenue and controversy. Twitter designed to ensure a steady flow of bigotry, hot takes, harassment, and spam. You're here to be outraged, advetised to, and sometimes preached to.

At the height of gamergate, 4chan actually banned discussion of it from their website. Twitter never did and never will do something similar. Twitter is basically corporate 4chan without community moderation and with more literal war criminals.
