A Wildcat with its radar and Martlet loadout can push out past the limited surface search and engagement range of an escort.

Giving it more time to react and more firepower to bring to bear. (Red - Weapon / Yellow - Surface radar)

The bigger brother Sea Venom which is coming in the not too distant future more than doubles that engagement range and has a significantly bigger warhead which allows it to engage larger ships. 4 can be carried, minus 1 per 5 Martlet for a mix of both.

Just for clarity. This is the engagement range for Harpoon. Clearly not for use against smaller ships like the above missiles are intended for.
