You can see from this map that a wolf pack is in the area, but also crossing the border. So unlikely to be 23 OR 28 wolf packs around the palace as there are only 41 packs observed in all of Brandenburg. https://lfu.brandenburg.de/cms/media.php/lbm1.a.3310.de/Wolfsnachweise_Stand_12_2019.pdf
[I’ve been pitching a piece on the changing attitudes to wolves in Germany. I am up on the wolf facts right now. ]
Both English language articles mention haunting. The palace that’s there now was largely rebuilt in the late 18th century. None of the info I can find mentions any ghosts, none of the German articles do. Now, I’d love to be corrected on this, I love a good haunted castle.
But I’m guessing someone threw the haunted bit in there, ‘because it’s a castle, innit?’

*sigh*
Okay fair dues to the BBC journo, one of the musicians made a joke about it, so he wasn’t claiming it was haunted. That was idiotic expansion by the NY Post.
And the attitude towards wolves in Germany is actually quite intense. The Big Bad Wolf is not an isolated occurrence in German folklore. Wolves were a real problem in the Middle Ages, and re-introducing wolves into the wild here in 2000 caused controversy.
So much so that a country lodge in the forest in Brandenburg that offers ‘wolf tracking walks’ and other wolf-related theme stays gets fake negative TripAdvisor reviews from local anti-wolf activists.
So there are few ‘wolf experience centres’ in around the country, like in the Black Forest, attempting to rehabilitate the image of this animal in the wild here, where every child grows up w very negative ideas about them. Anyway, my DMs are open if you want to commission me!
