Due to lockdown I have been unable to accompany my wife into hospital appointments for cancer treatment
During lockdown, My mum has had an operation to remove a tumour and was in the hospital for 4 weeks without seeing her husband, kids, family or anyone else she knows
Unfortunately my mum is in the latter stages of ‘end of life care’.
She’s being cared for by my sister, dad and some absolutely wonderful NHS carers.
I visit every day to bring supplies for locked down sister & dad

I’ve been told I could go in with the right equipment due to the circumstances and hold her hand.
I’ve not done so to date out of respect for the carers and not wanting to potentially transmit.
I stand outside the window with my family

We’ve already spoken to the funeral directors and it seems likely we’ll be restricted to 10 mourners.
We’ve already discussed which family and friends will have to not be invited

My mum wanted a church device but we won’t be allowed in the church, it’s a short graveside service.
My dad is very upset he can’t give her the send off she will deserve

The last couple of years have been tough for us as a family. Both my wife and mum’s health have given us so many ‘is this it?’ Moments.
Thankfully, I think my wife will be OK

I’ve also had a tough time at work. I miss seeing friends, so when I see that prat running around the country, not going along with his own government’s advice, I’m understandably angry.
And those bigger prats that are so partisan they’ll defend this behaviour

I’ve not tweeted this for sympathy, I’m OK. But I read other people’s sacrifices and hardships and like them I know exactly what they’re going through.
Weirdly, Twitter has proven to be a very welcome distraction
