Reconnecting looks diff in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Central, and South America. Please don’t conflate this discourse to all of this continent.
By doing so, you are also adding to the Pan-Indian discourse that is also being called out. Each Indigenous community has a diff protocol they follow bc they had to work with diff settler states, histories, etc.
I don’t want white or Mestizx people from Latin America to use this “reconnecting” discourse to continue to dismiss our lived experiences as Indigenous & Afro-Indigenous peoples.
As Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous peoples from Mexico, Central, & South America our lived experiences have been silenced under oppressive pan Indian discourses (e.g. antiquated Chicanx discourse). I don’t want folks using these discourses to weaponize us.
I think pointing out this difference is important bc we continue to be silenced in the U.S. bc certain oppressive pan Indian discourses have spread a lot of misinformation about our cultures in the U.S.
