/4 Getting lots of emails from constituents feeling absolutely #betrayed by the UK Govt over the #Cummings affair. This is not copy&paste emails from a website, it’s heartfelt personal expressions from people wondering if their sacrifices were necessary after all. They WERE ...
/4 but I understand why they ask the question. One said ‘my dad was dying & I left him alone bec that’s what I was told I had to do for the good of everyone’. Another is a key worker grieving for a parent who hasn’t had so much as a touch of anyone’s hand. On a personal note -
/4 my Uncle is 84 lives alone in Gourock, divides his time between there & 2of his daughters‘ houses in the Lake District. Lockdown came & he was in Gourock. My cousins asked me could they come & get him & I said no. They asked could they not use their own judgement & I said no!
/5 I was right even though it has meant he is alone, losing weight, hope, mobility & wondering if this is how he will end his life!! They call him every day & he has carers (thank God for #carers) but every day they worry they made the wrong decision. They didn’t.
They didn’t because #StayHomeSaveLives is more than just a hashtag, it means something. But now I am worried sick they will drive up and get him because The PM is basically saying interpret the guidelines as suits your family. For them #betrayed doesnt cover it. #cummingsmustgo
