Parents, please know that sending kids to int'l schools (primary & secondary) is preparing them to live in relatively advanced or more formal societies. So don't end at school fees: help them settle in such places after school. If not, at least provide finances to help them start
Apparently, the curriculum of most int'l schools seem to be based on assumptions of a society that's normal, formal & functional where all set rules are followed. Unfortunately, although this is good, it's not the case in poor countries like Zambia.
I've observed that grads of int'l schools tend to 've different expectations from local systems compared to us who attended ordinary schools. They get shocked & frustrated when things don't work a certain way while it's normal for us 'cause somehow it was part of the education
Worst of all, they face a serious challenge in that they don't belong to the world for which their education prepared them for. At the same time, their education has turned them into strangers to local realities as they fail to fit in. Think carefully as a parent. #ParentTwitter
What I'm saying is there's nothing wrong with sending children to advanced schools. It should be the norm for all. However, we should think about the realities around us. Where will our children apply the education? How can we support them use this education in the best way?
