Hunter x Hunter's greatest strength lies with its ability to execute upon its creative outburst of interesting yet equally chaotic ideas to weave such an intricately detailed narrative, and seeing it all unfold is one of the best watching experiences I've ever had with anime.
Its huge cast of uniquely written characters, expansive worldbuilding, and unpredictable nature never fails to be entertaining, and watching how the story develops over time, with each arc building on top of the previous one, plays a big part to the overall experience.
Nen as a power system is a brilliant concept, and how it's incorporated into the narrative is just as equally impressive. It allows for a more tangible understanding of how power levels work in this show, and the mind games that take place in every fight allow for smart and-
creative showcases of ability and strategy. The way each character has to play by the rules imposed by the power system to find innovative ways to defeat their opponent makes every fight fascinating. But what's more interesting is how these abilities are unique to its own user.
It adds another layer of depth and dimension to a character that ties so well to their identity. Each ability is reflective of its own user's personality and way of thinking. It's a subtle way of enriching not only the character but also the narrative they partake in as a whole.
Hunter x Hunter also presents a lot of strong themes, and it does an excellent job being able to effectively deliver its core messages. But despite its darker themes that talk about morality, human malice, and cruelty, the thing I appreciate the most is how it delivers-
the most genuine message of camaraderie, bonds, and friendship, which are recurring themes that encompass the entire show. It's something that's present on almost every aspect of the story, with the ultimate example of it being Gon and Killua's friendship.
Seeing these two grow not just as individuals, but as people working together and relying on each other truly made them the best of best friends I've ever seen in anime so far, and the unbreakable bond they've developed through the course of the entire show is truly admirable.
Overall, despite being far from finished, I am fully content with the amount of material this show has adapted so far. The amount of content these 148 episodes bring about immensely pay off the time investment of sitting through all of it.
