— 200524 dian sastro x dita karang instagram live: a live translation thread
live's up now
dian: what are you doing?
dita: ive just arrived at the studio haha
dian: what're you gonna d today?
dian: after this we'll have fitting
*the last line's dita's im sorry

dita: everyday we have different broadcasts
dian: like radio.. and stuff?
dita: yeah! we have a radio interview tomorrow
now they're talking bout cowona in south korea
dita: so that time we couldnt do anything, shooting and stuff, so the debut date's delayed
dian: what about other stuff?
dita: regarding music shows, there are no audience allowed there, so only staffs, artists, cameras, and stuff
dita: wish there's an audience though :(
dian: so that you can get their direct feedback?
dita: yeah! and it'd be more 'hype'
dian: what about south korea responses for 5n?
dita: for now we have international fans more than Korean ones
dian: which country has the most fans?
dita: idk.. (pause) from what I know, Indonesia (laughs)
dian's telling her followers about how she knew dita
LMAO THEY KNEW EACH OTHER SINCE DITA STIL WENT TO PRIMARY SCHOOL LOL
dian: can you tell us a bit what you did in nyc?
dit: so i wanted to go to nyc and liked dancing..
dian: wait maybe we can start from what you wanted to be
dita: so when i was in hs i started to think of what i wanted to do for the rest of my life...
dita: then dancing came in mind.. well not dancing, but performing. being on stage gives me somekind of a feeling, hence i wanted to perform on stage
dita: i first liked kpop when i was in jhs, with the cover dances and stuff. i liked 2ne1 first. but despite all that I never thought of becoming a kpop idol
dita: my family was a bit... like.. (didnt support her) since being a performer is... (not exactly a career they expected) but they knew how serious I was with performing, so in the end.. (they let me be one)
dian: for those who dont know, amda is one of the prestigious (schools) in nyc
dita: yes yes
dita: i'm not the type of person who initiates a conversation first, so when I was in nyc I didn't know anyone haha so yeah I lived in dorm there hence I got friends there haha
they're now talking about how to get a role in nyc broadways
dita: the competition's tough even though you have a good resume haha :(
dian: so you've tried to work in nyc, in musical world, so how could you decided to be a kpop idol?
dita: in nyc, because i knew i liked kpop--i kept joining auditions here and there for small projects like dance, but those werent my goals. i wanted to perform on a big stage. there was a time when i was stressed by that.
dita: so kpop came to mind. i joined kpop dance classes here and there and joined kpop companies auditions, including the big 3's but i didnt make it
dita: so i joined the monthly auditions for smaller companies, and in the end vine was interested in me. but then they gave me no further information or messages. so i decided to join 1MILLION--flew to south korea alone
dita: without understanding korean at all (LMAOOOO). so when i was in 1MILLION, i auditioned in vine again, and i got in. i began training and stuff, plus attending korean classes
dita: everyday i took notes and watched kdramas to learn korean, turned on the eng sub then eventually w/o subs at all.
dian: how long did it take till you could talk in korean?
dita: probably around 5-6 months, but till now i'm still learning haha
dita: i learn korean 'formally' 1h/day, then keep learning the conversational korean for the rest of the day hahaha
dian: there's a question here, how long were you a trainee in vine?
dita: around 2 years
dian: is that the average time (of being a trainee)?
dita: yeah.. but in my group there's someone who've trained for 5 years, 7 years...
dian: what about the seniority in there, is it difficult to adapt to their culture?
dita: since i was already interested in kpop industry, i knew i had to adapt and knew what i had to do when facing seniors, and stuff.. so since iwas prepared, it's not truly difficult
dian: so compared to compete in nyc and kpop industry, which one's easier?
dita: ahh that's kinda difficult (to be compared with).. in nyc it's a bit easier i guess, but i didnt get many roles for my appearance. they had no 'seniority' at all so it's a bit easier
dian: both kpop and kdrama industry are highly-competitive, what do u think of that? are you scared with the psychological pressure?
dita: i deadass thought i'd be tired physically since i dance a lot, but turns out mental tiredness happens more lmao
dita: it's important to have someone to talk to. everyday you'd sometimes feel stagnant and there's no progress,.. hence thats why
dita: for singing, sometimes i asked (someone) to value me since my main base isnt singing haha
dian: i dont want to compare, but for me your voice's sUPER GOOOOD (compared to others?)
dita: (shily smile)
DIAN'S GIVING DITA COMPLIMENTS SHES SO HAPPY ADKBK
dian: do u like ur voice?
dita: i still wanna improve.. i still have spaces for improvements i think. but for this song, i think ive done my best. the verse's so fast to the point i thought i was rapping
dian: someone asked me to ask you about the racism there, so hows it?
dta: fortunately ive never faced racism (as far as ive been in south korea). they told me they liked me tanned skin, and stuff, but idk i might not just face it yet
dita: i think they wont hate me for loving their culture haha
...
dian: ive just learnt that youre not the first indonesian kpop idol, youre the second, could you please tell us about him (loudi 14u)?
dian: ahh.. i havent met him yet, maybe one day :)!
* it was dita again OMG IM SORRY LMAO
dian: some people asked me to ask to to speak in korean and javanese haha
dita: omg lmao
dian: maybe do u remember how to speak balinese?
dita: noo haha :( but theres a funny story when i was making a video.. i didnt know my accent's thick when i speak indonesian haha
dian: can u tell us if ur schedule's limited (??) in javanese
dita: oh no LMAOOO can i please only use a lil bit of javanese?
dian: suree
dita: (super flustered)
dita's speaking javanese SUPER MEDOK ANJJ

dita: so ive debuted with my friends.. ahh (flustered)
now dita 's speaking in english
dita's now about to speak korean icant translate SKFHSJHF
dita: sometimes when i speak korean my brain went blank haha "words not found"
dian: what about interviews there? so you speak korean or?
dita: yeah, korean
SHES SPEAKING KOREAN IDK
DIANS SO PROUD AND HAPPY THAT DITA'S KOREAN SO GOOD LMAODAJK
dita wants to watch twotm so bad but she doesnt have the time so far
dian: can u tell us a bit what u do in a day?
dita: in the morning i woke up at 3 a.m
dian: WYTF?
dita: i went to salon..
dian: everyday?
dita: yeah everyday, sometimes at 4
dian: is the salon always the same one?
dita: yeah, always
dita: so i go to salon for makeup and hairdo, then go to music broadcasting building, standby for performance and fixing makeup and stuff,
dita: sometimes we have pre-recordings, sometimes not.
dian: so the makeup done at 3 is for the rest of the day?
dita: yeah
dita: so for the rest of the day we need to stay in the building till the chart's revealed. today's revealed at 5. then i go back to studio, back to training, eat food, sometimes theres a fitting for tomorrow's performance, then back to training again
dita: so i go back home at 12..
dian: but you removed makeup first right
dita: haha yes
dian: someone asked me whether theres something you do that your face has no acne whatsoever
dita: haha uhh well face-wipes, face oil, facial wash, toner, lotion, and mask.
dian: using mask is necessary?
dita: i think its the habit here.. so i always use face masks and sleep
DIAN AGAIN HYPING DITA UP AND BEING A PROUD MOM
q: how to survive in kpop idustry, do u have a problem with ur contract?
a: i read the contract carefully and it's the usual contract like others' so i have no worries whatsoever
q: have u ever thought of giving up?
a: once, in nyc since i got no role. i used to think if i took the wrong career path, but then i asked my friends who succeded in the industry, and stuff. in the end i knew it was my responsibility, if i had to choose i'd choose this path agai
q: what about some comments saying ofc dita's gonna be successful since ure rich and stuff, maybe u can tell us ur pov or ur thoughts of those comments?
a: ive never thoughts of being privileged. when i went to uni, since i knew its not a mainstream path,..
a: i had to fight for it myself. i had to find a scholarship to go to nyc so that i'd not be a burden for my parents
should i finish translating
ok ill do it anyway since thank goodness dian posted it!
dian: can u tell us what ur parents expected u to be?
dita: well idk either, i only told them what i wanted to be (laughs)

dita: ive ever wanted to major in performing arts management but thats not what i wanted. but my parents that time supported me to take that,
dita: maybe that's (management) what they wanted me to major in (laughs) since it's more "normal"* and looks promising (laughs)

*dita said "normal" since in indonesia it's uncommon to major in arts especially dancing. the stereotype is that choosing art as a...
...career path isnt promising
dian: how much did your family background help you? did they support you financially? (back to the privilege talk and all that) afaik you stuggled urself and stuff right?
dita: (agrees) the support i got the most from my family is the mental one, not financially
dita: here i even told my company that i wanted to live by myself, so i did everything myself and got nothing from my parents since i landed here (south korea? in vine ent? idk)
dita: so if people think im financially helped (by my family)... its not right
dian: thats right. so lets not judge people by saying "its bcs theyre privileged"–thats so wrong. it's all back to being hardworking and one's persistency
dita: (agrees)
dian: haha so many of the viewers are reminding u that u have a dance class at 7 (p.m kst)! so here are the last 2 questions for you: which member are you the closest with and can u tell us a bit about ur friends?
dian: OH and is there any official name of 5n's fandom?
dita: there's currently no official name for the fandom im sorryy but u can always tell ur ideas to the company
dita: for the closest member.. i dont think theres one since we're all close to each other–ive no other friends than them HAHAHA so im close to all five—but maybe denise since we share the same room, and jinny since she speaks english...
dita: so when im stressed that i cant speak korean id speak english to them
(ending the live)

dian: thank u so much for doing this live with me, please thank ur 사장님 (boss) and company (on my behalf for that). thank u so much dita, we love you

dita: ahh thanks to you too that i have this chance (to be doing a live with dian)!
dian: we all are proud of you and will support you always. please dont feel like ure alone, we all here in indonesia will pray for you–we're so proud of you (kisses gestures)
dita: i always feel glad that i have these people (who support me)
dian: 🥺🥺🥺🥺
thats it for the live, thanks for tuning in and im super sorry that this has become a super rough translation thread (´;ω;`) do u think i should redo this thread with more structured and neat translation?
