The story is being set up to show how she chose her devotion , there’s a displeasure from her father but at no point does he attempt to control her.

Sati married who she wanted despite how anyone else felt. Her father accepted that she was in control of her own desires. He was frustrated in the idea that her chosen suitor wasn’t good enough for his daughter. But ultimately she chose her suitor.

Even in male deities stories there are multiple mentions of how Parvati orders shiva to do what she wanted done. He becomes worried he won’t make her happy again. To further please his wife he makes Ganesh the 1st worshipped because of his loyalty to his mother.
